The Academic Education Committee is charged with promoting best education resources related to the practice of physical therapy for ageing adults. The committee will oversee development of activities related to the education of entry-level physical therapists and physical therapist assistants related to geriatric practice. The chair oversees development and updates of education content related to best practices in geriatric care, including but not limited to essential competencies in the care of ageing adults and entry-level competencies in the care of ageing adults. The committee develops mechanisms for information and resource sharing, discussions of relevant topics, and professional networking related to PT and PTA education in geriatric physical therapy.

The Evidence-Based Documents Committee is charged with managing the development of evidence-based documents such as clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), adapted guidelines and clinical summaries that utilize the framework of the International Classification of Functioning, and Disability and Health (ICF), that address the physical therapy assessment and management of conditions commonly seen in ageing adults.

NOTE: This committee includes three subcommittees: GeriEDGE (Evidence-based Documents Guiding Evaluation), Research, and Knowledge Translation

The Geriatric Specialist Certification and Advanced Proficiency Pathways for PTAs Committee is charged with promoting advance practice activities to PT and PTAs including but not limited to assisting those therapists/therapists assistants pursuing geriatric certification, advanced clinical proficiency recognition, pursuing or developing clinical residency programs, and/or pursuing any other advance education related to the ageing adult.

The Nominating Committee is charged with recruiting and slating outstanding candidates for each elected position on the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy elections slate, to conduct the elections ethically, in a way that is compliant with the bylaws, and promote member participation in the vote. The committee fosters activities that maintain and promote a pool of nominees and recruit strong candidates for elected positions including Special Interest Group (SIG) officers and to facilitate the appointment process. The committee maintains the confidentiality of any potential candidate until the final slate is completed and submitted to the board of directors (BOD).

The Payment, Policy, and Advocacy Committee is charged with monitoring and advising on federal legislation as it relates to reimbursement and payment for physical therapy services in all practice settings were ageing adults are served.

The Awards Committee is charged with overseeing the development and granting of various Academy awards to celebrate excellence in physical therapy for ageing adults. The Awards Committee reviews and makes a recommendation to the board on the following awards:

  1. Clinical Impact in Geriatrics Award
  2. Academic Impact in Geriatrics Award
  3. Joan M. Mills Award
  4. Carole B. Lewis Lecture Award

The Research Committee reviews and vets applications and makes recommendation to the BOD for the Excellence in Geriatric Research Award. The board reviews all recommendations and makes final selection.

Chair: VACANT

The Online Education Committee provides oversight and coordination of continuing education programming primarily offered online that currently includes but is not limited to: the Home Study Courses (HSC) and Webinar and Learning Center. Working directly with HSC Editor and the Webinar and Learning Center the Chair coordinates online course delivery of relevant topics, identifying potential speakers, marketing of online courses, and serving as a liaison to the administrative office for specific webinar course needs.
