APTA Geriatrics stands against racism and brutality. Consistent with our vision, APTA Geriatrics believes that skin color should not determine one's ability to attain older age and experience wellbeing throughout the lifespan. Our values statement has included respecting the cultural diversity of each member and older adult, and we continue to proudly embrace that. However, we realize that is not enough.
Therefore, APTA Geriatrics commits to raising awareness of, and voices for, social issues that impact public health and limit the ability for black individuals to move and age well. This commitment begins within the association itself as we engage with our members and develop present and future leaders. And it extends to our engagement with patients, consumers, the public, and society as a whole.
We will conduct a sweeping review of association policies, procedures, documents, educational proposals and course offerings; paying close attention to inclusivity and social determinants of health. We welcome member input and suggestions for specific actions APTA Geriatrics can take. We are listening.
APTA Geriatrics proudly stands alongside its minority members in ending racial injustice in all forms so that everyone has the health and ability to Age On.
