APTA Geriatrics State Advocates

Want to contact your State Advocate? - Click on a state

If your state doesn't have a State Advocate and you would like to volunteer, more information including the job description and application may be found here.  If you'd like to discuss the position with the regional coordinators, please contact Beth Black (west of the Mississippi River) or Aliya Decates (east of the Mississippi River).

The State Advocates work at the local level to advocate for older adults. Some of the responsibilities of an Advocate are:

  1. Provide two-way communication between APTA Geriatrics and the chapter.
  2. Communicate with APTA Geriatrics members in your state when there are geriatric-related issues, courses, meetings, etc. in your chapter.
  3. Hold at least two activities each year to promote increased awareness and knowledge of PT for the older adult in your chapter.
